Once
the rarest of gemstones; blue topaz is common
and affordable today. Naturally occurring blue
topaz is still exceedingly rare, and expensive.
In the 1970's a process of color enhancement was
developed to transform pale, undesirable blue
topaz into the deep, captivating hues it's famous
for. These stones are cut, treated to irradiation,
and then heated, in a process that can take minutes
to years.
Common mining sites for blue topaz are: Brazil,
Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and China. A favorite of
designers, blue topaz suits both white, and
yellow-gold settings, brightening any wardrobe.
Clean it well with soap and water. Dust and
dirt collecting under the stone can cause it's
clarity to fade.
